In Pune, the chairman of DRDO, Samir Kamat, announced that the organization's production value of defense systems exceeds Rs5.8 lakh crore. This value is expected to double in the next five years as their systems are increasingly being used by the Indian armed forces and overseas, including European countries. Kamat made these remarks as the chief guest at the Defense Institute of Advanced Technology's convocation ceremony. He highlighted the growing applications of DRDO's systems in the Indian military and the rising export interest, particularly in Southeast Asian and European nations. He also discussed the organization's successful missile projects, development of new technologies like the man-portable anti-tank missiles, radar systems, naval propulsion innovations, and plans for future armament systems like light tanks. Furthermore, Kamat awarded degrees to 249 MTech students and 22 PhD scholars during the convocation, acknowledging their achievements in various research disciplines. He emphasized the abundant opportunities for individuals in defense research due to the sector's focus on self-reliance.Collaboration is essential for success in defense projects, particularly in light of emerging disruptive technologies from recent conflicts. The DRDO is undergoing a transformation, and young scientists will play a critical role in this evolution. The organization is looking to embrace these disruptive technologies and adapt to geopolitical shifts by partnering with top academic institutions in the country. In an effort to mirror successful models like those in the US, the DRDO has established academically excellent institutes and created "young scientists" laboratories to foster innovative solutions for defense challenges. Additionally, collaborations with private industries are underway, with funding opportunities available for the development of indigenous research systems.
